The Town of Caledon is working on developing an Affordable Housing Strategy to identify the current and emerging key housing gaps in the Town and to develop solutions to address these gaps. The recommendations in this Strategy will be incorporated into the Town’s updated Official Plan.

The first phase of work identified the following housing gaps in Caledon.

1. There is a need for more diverse housing options suitable for seniors and smaller households in Caledon.

2. There is a need for more supportive housing options for persons with disabilities to live as independently as possible.

3.There is a need for housing affordable to households with low incomes and these options should include a range of unit sizes.

4. Households with moderate incomes are facing housing affordability issues in Caledon as there are very limited rental and ownership housing options affordable to households with moderate incomes.

5. The market rental housing supply in Caledon is not enough to meet the need.

6. Housing supply should adapt to shifting housing preferences and be built to limit exposure for vulnerable populations to COVID-19 in Caledon.
