The Town of Caledon has launched a Parking Strategy Study for the Southfields Village Community. Southfields is a relatively new residential community with high vehicle dependency and an increasing demand for additional parking options. This high demand is causing an increase in on-street parking, parking of vehicles on narrow boulevards overhanging sidewalks and roadways, widening of driveways, paving of front yards and removal of landscaping, which negatively impacts the appearance of the community. The Town is developing a Parking Strategy to address the parking demand and minimize negative impacts on the neighbourhood.

The Parking Strategy Study will identify actions, programs and strategies to address the parking demand in the neighbourhood. Although the study area will be limited to the Southfields Village Community, the study recommendations could be applied in other communities across the Town.

The Study Objectives

The Parking Strategy Study aims to:

  1. Undertake gap analysis by assessing the existing parking in the community, including field investigations, a review of existing by-laws and permitting processes concerning parking in the community, and a review of best practices.
  2. Identify potential options and respective impacts by consultation with the public and stakeholders, including OPP, the Fire Department, the Operations Department, and Regulatory Services.
  3. Develop actions, required by-laws, permits, and programs to address the parking demand and reduce illegal parking.

Community Engagement

Public and stakeholder consultation is critical to the Parking Strategy. The Town will host several consultation and engagement activities including public information open houses. Your input is important to us. We want to hear your comments, ideas and questions on the current state and the future parking strategy.

To Participate:

  2. Online surveys will be hosted on the project page where you will be able to provide comments and feedback for consideration by study team.
  3. Participate in public information open houses to discuss the study with the project team and provide feedback. Details, including the date, time and how to participate in each Public Information Centre will be posted on this webpage.

Data collection teams are out today and will be again on Saturday (May 4) for parking surveys. The collected data will help the study team to understand the parking demand and available parking opportunities within the community. We will share results of the survey and analysis of the data in the upcoming Public Open House in June.

During the survey, the staff will manually note the following data. No Personal information including vehicle registration plate will be collected.

    • Number of vehicles parked on the driveways and on the aprons/boulevard.
    • Number of vehicles parked on the streets.
    • Number of vehicles parked in Community Centre, parking lots in Parks, and parking lots in Schools.
