The Town of Caledon has launched a Parking Strategy Study for the Southfields Village Community. Southfields is a relatively new residential community with high vehicle dependency and an increasing demand for additional parking options. This high demand is causing an increase in on-street parking, parking of vehicles on narrow boulevards overhanging sidewalks and roadways, widening of driveways, paving of front yards and removal of landscaping, which negatively impacts the appearance of the community. The Town is developing a Parking Strategy to address the parking demand and minimize negative impacts on the neighbourhood.

The Parking Strategy Study will identify actions, programs and strategies to address the parking demand in the neighbourhood. Although the study area will be limited to the Southfields Village Community, the study recommendations could be applied in other communities across the Town.

The Study Objectives

The Parking Strategy Study aims to:

  1. Undertake gap analysis by assessing the existing parking in the community, including field investigations, a review of existing by-laws and permitting processes concerning parking in the community, and a review of best practices.
  2. Identify potential options and respective impacts by consultation with the public and stakeholders, including OPP, the Fire Department, the Operations Department, and Regulatory Services.
  3. Develop actions, required by-laws, permits, and programs to address the parking demand and reduce illegal parking.

Community Engagement

Public and stakeholder consultation is critical to the Parking Strategy. The Town will host several consultation and engagement activities including public information open houses. Your input is important to us. We want to hear your comments, ideas and questions on the current state and the future parking strategy.
