On December 13, 2023, the Province announced a planned update to the Hazel McCallion Act that would preserve Caledon's connection with the Regional Municipality of Peel within a two-tier governance system.

As part of the announcement, the Province will focus the mandate of the Transition Board to providing recommendations on optimizing the delivery of services that support the commitment to build more homes, including land-use planning, servicing, roads and waste management. Regional services such as paramedics, public health, human services and housing will continue to be provided by the Region of Peel. An updated manddate for the Transition board is expected in early 2024.

Updates will be provided as work progresses and information becomes available.

Background

The Hazel McCallion Act (Peel Dissolution), 2023 called for a provincially appointed Transition Board to lead the process of dissolving the Region of Peel by January 1, 2025.

The Town of Caledon formed an internal transition team in September 2023 led by the Mayor, Chief Administrative Officer, Commissioners and senior staff from key areas impacted by dissolution such as finance, human resources, servicing, roads and human services.

The Province's Transition Board was responsible for consulting with the respective transition teams at the Region, Town of Caledon, City of Brampton and City of Mississauga to ensure a fair and equitable dissolution process. The Transition Board, through consultation, was responsible for providing the Province advice related to the continuation of services and financial sustainability of Caledon, Brampton and Mississauga as decisions are made to implement the dissolution of Peel.

    Emergency Services

by Mara, about 1 year ago
In January 2023 I had a medical emergency for my husband. It took ambulance services over an hour to come to the house - and we are still in Peel Region for another year!!

Once Peel Region dissolves - how long will it take for a medical emergency to be addressed? Will there be services provided to Bolton after the dissolution? Will we have to wait a long time to get ambulance service?

As a senior I am very anxious about these and other future services.

Town of Caledon should have their own to service all of Caledon residents.
