Parks Plan

It's important to plan Caledon’s parks system now so it can grow as Caledon grows. We need to expand our park system to meet the community’s outdoor recreation needs today and into the future. The newly-approved Parks Plan will ensure we have an optimal level of service for parks that is accessible to all residents — this is the amount and type of service that meets community needs/desires and is sustainable, affordable and realistic.

This Parks Plan does not address trails and open spaces. The Town is currently creating an Active Transportation Master Plan - stay tuned for more information in future.

The Parks Plan was developed by:

Evaluating our existing parks system.
Outlining issues and opportunities associated with our parks system.
Reviewing existing and anticipated park supply.
Assessing current and future parkland needs.
Determining park hierarchy; this includes size, type and amenities in the park.
Planning for an optimal level of service as our community grows and changes.
Developing strategic directions for parkland retention, use of parkland and expansion.

The new Parks Plan allows us to update our policies and priorities in alignment with Caledon’s Official Plan and to take advantage of legislation, trends and approaches in parks planning and development.

The Parks Plan was approved by Council on June 28, 2022.
