The Town of Caledon is in the process of developing a Public Art Plan as a recommendation from the Parks and Recreation Strategy. The plan will serve as a roadmap for the Town to deliver high quality public art in our shared public spaces, enhancing community vitality and supporting our ongoing revitalization efforts. The plan will:

  • Enhance public spaces
  • Celebrate Caledon's unique and diverse identity of our community of communities
  • Celebrate Indigenous stories and honour Indigenous history and heritage through public art
  • Promote local culture, heritage and storytelling
  • Establish standards, best practices and maintenance guidelines to support accessible, equitable and culturally responsive public art
  • Support local artists and the Caledon arts community

What is public art?

Public art refers to artwork that is displayed in public spaces and are accessible to all. It brings creativity, beauty, conversation and character to public spaces throughout Caledon and can take on different forms such as sculptures, murals, decorative public seating, monuments, digital artwork and is acquired through the Town using a public process. Public art is important for revitalizing our community and ensuring our public spaces are unique, vibrant and reflective of our community.

How can I get involved?

We are seeking to understand from the Caledon community the importance of Public Art in Caledon and how it supports revitalizing our public spaces. We would love to hear from you and spark conversation around the public art in your community and generate ideas to support equitable and culturally responsive public art in Caledon. The Town needs your input on the types of public art you would like to see offered in your neighbourhood.

Our conversations will be taking place this Summer and Fall 2025, including a series of pop-up engagements, a public art working tour, focus groups, and a community survey. More information about the program will be released over the months to follow.
