    • Addition of 93,000 jobs for a total of 125,000 by 2051

Where do the growth allocations come from?

Growth allocations are set out in Provincial plans and legislation such as A Place to Grow: Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, 2020 as well as the Region of Peel’s Official Plan.

Will any land in Caledon be protected from urban development?

About 80 percent of Caledon is protected by the Greenbelt Plan, Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan and Niagara Escarpment Plan legislation and will remain unavailable for urban development.

Where is Caledon expected to grow and develop?

Urban growth will be focused in less than 20 percent of Caledon, mostly in the southern part of the Town.  Where and how the Town grows will be set out in the new Official Plan.

    What is an Official Plan?

An Official Plan is a document required by the Province that describes a municipality's land-use strategy for the next 30 years. It addresses the location and form of new housing, industry, offices and shops as well as anticipated needs for infrastructure. Streets, parks, transit, community amenities, and other elements of a growing town are all considered in the Official Plan.

Why is the Town reviewing its Official Plan?

The Planning Act requires every municipality to update its Official Plan at least once every five years, or every 10 years after the approval of a new Official Plan.

What part(s) of the Official Plan are being reviewed?

The Town is conducting a comprehensive review of the current Official Plan. You may notice in the draft Official Plan (released March 21, 2022) some sections/policies have been carried over from the current plan, been revised, been removed, or are completely new. Some parts of the plan are still undergoing review and will be updated at a later date.

Where are we in the OP process?

We are now gathering input on the second draft of the Future Caledon Official Plan. A third draft was released in late August 2023, followed by public open houses and a public meeting hosted by Council in September. We expect that a final draft will be recommended for Council adoption in late 2023 or early 2024.
