Illegal Land Use: Trucking

The Illegal Land Use Taskforce is looking for input from residents to help support enforcement initiatives around illegal land use for trucking operations within the community.

Background:

In 2019, Caledon launched the Illegal Land Use Taskforce to address growing land use issues related to the parking and storage of tractor-trailers and commercial vehicles. In the last few years, more than 300 properties in Caledon have been investigated for potential illegal truck storage violations.

Impacts of illegal land use

• Environment: Damage to sensitive soil and water
• Farmland: Paving over farmland
• Pollution: Air, light and noise pollution
• Safety: Increased traffic and large trucks on residential roads and near busy neighbourhoods
• Town character: Makes the town look unwelcoming
• Quality of life: Impacting property values and discouraging potential new residents

Municipal Law Enforcement will also hold a workshop with Council at the General Committee Meeting on Wednesday, May 1 to discuss illegal land use in the community and next steps.
