    What service areas are included in the Town’s budget?

    The budget supports Town operations and over 40 services, including:

    1. Parks, recreation and community events 
    2. Fire and emergency services 
    3. By-law enforcement 
    4. Infrastructure improvements (like roads) 
    5. Environment/Climate change programs and support
    6. Local transit 
    7. Libraries 
    8. Cycling, walking, open space trails and active transportation 

    What is the difference between an operating and capital budget?

    There are two main components of the Town budget: operating and capital.

    The operating budget pays for all the day-to-day activities and needs of the corporation, including:

    • Waste and recycling collection
    • Winter maintenance
    • Utilities
    • Insurance
    • Reserve fund contributions
    • Salaries and wages

    The capital budget pays for one-time projects that help us invest in Caledon’s growth:

    • New projects 
    • Rehabilitating existing infrastructure (such as buildings, roads and bridges)

    How is the budget decided?

    The General Committee discusses the draft budget during a series of meetings. A proposed budget will be presented to Council for input followed by a Council meeting for a final decision. All meetings are open to the public. 

    How are taxes split between Municipal, Regional and Education taxes?

    • Municipal – 46.8%
    • Regional – 34.2%
    • Education – 19%
