Active Transportation Master Plan
In April 2022, the Town of Caledon began an Active Transportation Master Plan (ATMP), including Orangeville Brampton Railway (OBRY) to trail conversion with a focus on promoting active transportation, trail development, and utilization to create a livable and sustainable community today and for years to come. The plan provides the necessary framework to develop and manage a more physically active transportation community in a cost-effective manner that will connect, integrate, enhance and expand on our existing facilities.
To this end, the Town has initiated the ATMP, and a comprehensive review of its pedestrian, cycling and trail-related policies and plans will be completed. The ATMP will identify a network of year-round active transportation features that will be safe and comfortable for all ages and abilities of people walking and cycling.
What is Active Transportation?
Active transportation is any form of human-powered transportation, including walking, cycling, inline-skating, skateboarding, and moving with mobility devices. It is about getting to work or school, going shopping, running errands, visiting friends and family, or other trips by walking, biking, and rolling. An active transportation network includes sidewalks, multi-use trails, crosswalks, on-road bikeways, and off-road trails.
There are many benefits of active transportation:
- Transportation: improve safety, reduce congestion, and increase access and transportation choice
- Environment: improve air quality and contribute to vibrant communities
- Health: increase physical activity and reduce chronic disease
- Economy: reduce household travel costs, and support local business
Active Transportation Master Plan Objectives
The Active Transportation Master Plan will:
- Capture a vision for the future of accessible, safe, and connected active transportation throughout the Town of Caledon.
- Identify system and connection gaps in the existing active transportation network.

Community Engagement
Public engagement and consultation with Stakeholders are the integral part of the ATMP and to this end, the Town started a robust community engagement process that will inform our Active Transportation Master Plan (ATMP). Gathering public and stakeholders’ input will help us better understand the current barriers to, and opportunities for, active transportation throughout Caledon.
Your insights will be collected will be considered as the ATMP is created and will inform investments in both cycling and pedestrian infrastructure throughout the Town. The ATMP will support broader Town goals of creating healthier and more sustainable communities and a vibrant local economy.
